Paste Plant Tour

The paste fill plant at Aguas Tenidas is now 100% operational and the first mined stope was filled with cemented paste fill in early August 2009.
Paste technology, which was originally developed in Canada in the 1990's and has been used extensively in underground mining operations in Canada is now being introduced to existing and new underground mining operations throughout Europe as a means to increase the amount of extractable ore from underground mines. Use of paste fill improves ground stability within the areas being mined, resulting in safer and more efficient underground mining operations.
During PDAC 2009, Iberian hosted Dr. Pedro Oyanguren Ramirez and Dr. Ricardo Lain, both professors of rock mechanics from the Madrid School of Mines and well recognized in the Spanish mining industry and by government officials in Spain as the premier experts in rock mechanics both for underground and open pit mining operations. The visit to Canada included visits to several underground mining operations in Quebec with the objective of showing practical examples of the success of paste fill technology.
